No More Butts
Cigarette filters are the most littered item in the world.
Every minute in Israel, 8,000 cigarette butts are thrown on the ground.
It’s a common misconception that cigarette butts are not litter. But the reality is cigarette butts are the world’s most common form of litter, it’s estimated that 4.5 trillion butts are tossed annually.
These butts are made up out of cellulose acetate, a non biodegradable plastic. Meaning they don’t just go away.
Approximately 80% of all cigarette butts aren’t discarded into receptacles, but rather tossed onto the ground.
So what’s the problem?
Besides that cigarette butts are an eyesore, they contain thousands of chemicals; many of them are known carcinogens.
These toxins leach into their surroundings, the sand, ground, water. The fish, birds, and marine life that eat them.
And then we sit in the sand, swim in the water, and eat the fish.
Cigarette butt pollution not only harms the environment, it’s harming human health.
Our mission with Clean the Butts is to take something that once was polluting our environment and turn it into something useful, all while creating awareness and positive social change.
